Every day, 2,600 Americans die of cardiovascular disease -- and despite remarkable interventional and surgical procedures, over 650,000 new heart attacks occur annually. In The Heart Speaks, Dr. Mimi Guarneri reveals groundbreaking new research that the heart is a multilayered, complex organ, possessing intelligence, memory, and decision-making abilities independent from the mind -- and that healing the heart can have more to do with healing the mind and soul than we ever knew.

From childhood in a family riddled with heart disease to a medical career facing the pounding heartbeats of cardiac emergencies, Dr. Guarneri draws us into the intimate moments of life and death, and leads us on a riveting exploration of the heart's many mysteries. Through her compelling memoir we see that it is only by knowing the whole heart -- its mental, emotional, spiritual, and universal aspects -- that we can truly heal.

From the moment he set foot on it, Karl Rove has rocked America’s political stage. He ran the national College Republicans at twenty-two, and turned a Texas dominated by Democrats into a bastion for Republicans. He launched George W. Bush to national renown by unseating a popular Democratic governor, and then orchestrated a GOP White House win at a time when voters had little reason to throw out the incumbent party. For engineering victory after unlikely victory, Rove became known as “the Architect.”

Because of his success, Rove has been attacked his entire career, accused of everything from campaign chicanery to ideological divisiveness. In this frank memoir, Rove responds to critics, passionately articulates his political philosophy, and defends the choices he made on the campaign trail and in the White House. He addresses controversies head-on— from his role in the contest between Bush and Senator John McCain in South Carolina to the charges that Bush misled the nation on Iraq. In the course of putting the record straight, Rove takes on Democratic leaders who acted cynically or deviously behind closed doors, and even Republicans who lacked backbone at crucial moments.

Courage and Consequence is also the first intimate account from the highest level at the White House of one of the most headline-making presidencies of the modern age. Rove takes readers behind the scenes of the bitterly contested 2000 presidential contest, of tense moments aboard Air Force One on 9/11, of the decision to go to war in Afghanistan and Iraq, of the hard-won 2004 reelection fight, and even of his painful three years fending off an indictment by Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald. In the process, he spells out what it takes to win elections and how to govern successfully once a candidate has won.

Rove is candid about his mistakes in the West Wing and in his campaigns, and talks frankly about the heartbreak of his early family years. But Courage and Consequence is ultimately about the joy of a life committed to the conservative cause, a life spent in political combat and service to country, no matter the costs.

!1: Best Buy First off, I can't really say I knew a lot about Rove before I read this book. I just thought he was a political boss and George Bush's handler. Well, I guess I'm not that far off once I finished this very readable and interesting book. It is well written, incredibly detailed and really gives you a peak in to some interesting times between 2000 and 2008. I absolutely love his remarks about the Democrats leadership from Reid to Pelosi and Kerry. It's funny and very clever. Also, he seems to have some many details that fly in the face of the media's point of view. I know, this isn't too surprising but it sure does paint a more complete picture. In summary, this book is very well written and worth your time to read. on Sale!

B-Jay Wilson was born Bevie J. Wilson on July 29, 1964, to Sharon Wilson. Growing up in her grandmother’s home, she was raised along with her mother and her mother’s siblings. She got the same upbringing as the other children. She grew up to become a single parent to two beautiful and wonderful daughters. Loving her girls taught her true love, undeserved but appreciated. It was her sixth grade teacher at Bullard Elementary school in Fresno, California, who first taught her about poetry. It was then that she began writing her deepest feelings on paper, always keeping them treasured in her heart. These words came straight from God and as she aspires to write these words of encouragement, she prays that these words will help you along your way. From God’s heart to her heart straight to yours, enjoy.

Barbara Bush endures as one of America's most popular First Ladies. She has won worldwide acclaim for her wit, compassion, and candor as both a presidential wife and mother. In this #1 New York Times bestselling memoir, Mrs. Bush offers a heartfelt portrait of her life in and out of the White House, from her small-town schoolgirl days in Rye, New York, to her fateful union with George H.W. Bush, to her role as First Lady of the United States. Here, she writes candidly about:

• her early years with George Bush in West Texas
• the tragic death of her young daughter
• the world of Washington politics and the famous figures she's met
• her role as the nation's leading literacy champion
• her feelings about the Iran-Contra scandal, the Persian Gulf conflict, and the Cold War
• the disappointment of the 1992 presidential campaign -- and the mixed blessing of regaining her private life

...and much more. Filled with entertaining anecdotes, dozens of personal photographs, and a healthy dose of humor, this memoir is as compelling and honest as the former First Lady herself.

!1: Best Buy I'll admit up front that I am a fan of both 41 and 43--and have always admired "Bar". That being said, I loved the book. Mrs. Bush has such a gentle, warm way about her and this is certainly reflected in her writing. She is able to weave together the story of her life (including some not-so-wonderful moments) with wit, warmth and clarity--all without ever resorting to name-calling, self-pity or egotism. This book is a refreshing change of pace and should be taken for what it is: a remarkable woman's life story told from her (very sunny) point of view. on Sale!

Laura Bush: An Intimate Portrait of the First Lady

When Laura Bush moved into the White House on January 20, 2001, everyone wanted to know what kind of first lady she would be. Would she be like Mamie Eisenhower? Would she follow in Barbara Bush’s footsteps? Would she be another Hillary Clinton?

“I think I’ll just be Laura Bush,” she would say.

On Saturday, April 30, 2005, the world got a glimpse of what that meant when she pushed aside the leader of the free world and stole the show at the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner. Wearing a shimmering lime green Oscar de la Renta gown, Laura wisecracked that she was a “desperate housewife” married to a president who was always asleep at nine.

Replayed constantly on the air, the stand-up routine with its impeccable comedic timing turned the first lady into a glittering star. But while the performance catapulted her to new status, it did not answer the question of who this former teacher and librarian really is and just what role she plays in influencing her husband and shaping his administration. The Bushes are more effective than the FBI or CIA at keeping secret what goes on behind the scenes at the White House, the ranch, or Camp David.

Now, New York Times bestselling author Ronald Kessler draws back that curtain in the first biography of Laura Bush to be written with White House cooperation. Based on interviews with her closest friends and confidantes from childhood to the present, as well as family members and administration heavyweights like Condoleezza Rice and Andrew Card, Kessler paints a portrait of a woman who, even as she ascended to the heights of political fortune and power, never lost touch with the bedrock American values she absorbed in her youth.

In this unprecedented account, Kessler reveals:

How Laura’s opinions have brought budget changes to a range of federal agencies and have affected her husband’s policies, appointments, and worldview.
Why Laura told her press secretary in May 2001 she did not want to do any more media interviews.
What President Bush said to Laura at the dinner table after giving the “go” for the invasion of Iraq, and what his father, former President George H. W. Bush, wrote him the next day about the war.
What Laura’s own political opinions are and what her relationship with twin daughters Jenna and Barbara is really like.
What Laura says in private about Hillary Clinton, media attacks on her husband, and his victory in the 2004 election.
And why Laura, at the age of seventeen, missed a stop sign and caused a fatal accident that tragically left one of her best friends dead.

LAURA BUSH offers a remarkable look at the private world of this famously reserved woman, as well as the beliefs and attitudes that shape it. The book will surprise readers whose knowledge of the first lady comes from cautious media interviews and speeches.

Laura Bush’s approval rating stands at 85 percent. Since opinion polls first began asking about them, no first lady has received a higher rating. This moving biography is the first to penetrate the secret world of the president’s stealth counselor who is one of our most admired public figures.

±1±: Best Buy I can't give my personal views on the product. I shipped it to Chicago for my granddaughter as a birthday gift because I know how she loves former First Lady, Laura Bush, having had the chance to sing at the White House twice with the Madrigal Singers of Incarnate Word High School of San Antonio, Texas. But, from what she told me, she loves the book, she was so ecstatic when she called to thank me for her book. I would say she rated it a 4-star. It should have been a five but she wished for more pictures. on Sale!

In this brave, beautiful, and deeply personal memoir, Laura Bush, one of our most beloved and private first ladies, tells her own extraordinary story.

Born in the boom-and-bust oil town of Midland, Texas, Laura Welch grew up as an only child in a family that lost three babies to miscarriage or infant death. She vividly evokes Midland's brash, rugged culture, her close relationship with her father, and the bonds of early friendships that sustain her to this day. For the first time, in heart-wrenching detail, she writes about the devastating high school car accident that left her friend Mike Douglas dead and about her decades of unspoken grief.

When Laura Welch first left West Texas in 1964, she never imagined that her journey would lead her to the world stage and the White House. After graduating from Southern Methodist University in 1968, in the thick of student rebellions across the country and at the dawn of the women's movement, she became an elementary school teacher, working in inner-city schools, then trained to be a librarian. At age thirty, she met George W. Bush, whom she had last passed in the hallway in seventh grade. Three months later, "the old maid of Midland married Midland's most eligible bachelor." With rare intimacy and candor, Laura Bush writes about her early married life as she was thrust into one of America's most prominent political families, as well as her deep longing for children and her husband's decision to give up drinking. By 1993, she found herself in the full glare of the political spotlight. But just as her husband won the Texas governorship in a stunning upset victory, her father, Harold Welch, was dying in Midland.

In 2001, after one of the closest elections in American history, Laura Bush moved into the White House. Here she captures presidential life in the harrowing days and weeks after 9/11, when fighter-jet cover echoed through the walls and security scares sent the family to an underground shelter. She writes openly about the White House during wartime, the withering and relentless media spotlight, and the transformation of her role as she began to understand the power of the first lady. One of the first U.S. officials to visit war-torn Afghanistan, she also reached out to disease-stricken African nations and tirelessly advocated for women in the Middle East and dissidents in Burma. She championed programs to get kids out of gangs and to stop urban violence. And she was a major force in rebuilding Gulf Coast schools and libraries post-Katrina. Movingly, she writes of her visits with U.S. troops and their loved ones, and of her empathy for and immense gratitude to military families.

With deft humor and a sharp eye, Laura Bush lifts the curtain on what really happens inside the White House, from presidential finances to the 175-year-old tradition of separate bedrooms for presidents and their wives to the antics of some White House guests and even a few members of Congress. She writes with honesty and eloquence about her family, her public triumphs, and her personal tribulations. Laura Bush's compassion, her sense of humor, her grace, and her uncommon willingness to bare her heart make this story revelatory, beautifully rendered, and unlike any other first lady's memoir ever written.

±1±: Best Buy I've always admired Laura Bush and moreso now after reading her book. I've never been to Texas, but learned so much about the history of Midland and how Texas living is so different from the way I live in the northeast. It was very interesting. I especially appreciated the latter half of the book where she discussed more of her role and responsibilities as first lady. I was aware of her work in improving Afghanistan and in the creation of the National Book Festival, but there were so many other accomplishments she acheived that I didn't hear about in the media since it tends to be so focused on negative news, over-the-top stories, or people bashing. I'm saving this book for my daughters to read when they get older so they can understand how much the country was forced into change following 9-11 and what it was like for the people who were in the White House at the time who had to deal with its aftermath. on Sale!

Paige Rogers is a reinvented person. Now a librarian in a small Oklahoma town, she used to be a CIA agent, and has skills that no one in her small town would dream that she possesses. But she "killed" off her former self, and hid, spending several years building up a quiet life.

Miles is the town football coach and he's had a crush on Paige since she came into town. But unfortunately for him she makes it clear that she is not interested in a relationship other than friendship.

But then a stranger comes riding into town. Allegedly working for a newspaper and writing an article on small towns. But Paige knows he's not telling the truth and it is simple work to uncover the truth. Now, Paige's careful existence has been shattered.

He is coming after her again. But this time he intends to silence her for good.

BREACH OF TRUST was in my to-read-pile, when I noticed that it won the Christy award for fiction. I was anxious to start reading it, once I heard that. I had read some of the other books that had been nominated and they were tops in my opinion, so I wondered what had made this book come out ahead.

Ms. Mills is a very talented writer, and she didn't waste words when she wrote this manuscript. The writing is extremely tight, which usually makes me lose my interest in a book--normally when the writing is this concise all emotion seems to be drained out of it.

Not in this case.

A suspense with romance, and an operative kick, this is a book that will be going on keeper shelves. If you are looking for one suspense to read this summer, then BREACH OF TRUST will definitely be one you want to consider. Pick up your copy today. Discussion questions, and a preview of her next book in this series Breach of Security is included at the end of this book. on Sale!

±1±: Best Buy This was the 1st biography I have read in many many years. Laura's story is really a personal look inside a kind and generous woman's life. Not just the wife of GW Bush or the First Lady but a woman (an ordinary woman just like all of us), her thoughts, feelings, fears during times of crisis, her social life, her concerns, and her true love of family and the less fortunate.

Regardless of your political views, this is a wonderfully written book about history, our history lived as Laura Bush.
